All hands on deck

Full house this weekend with my wonderfully enthusiastic and helpful parents visiting.  The goal was to paint-prep the upstairs room that will be our room.  Cheryl and I had thought we'd peeled off the painted over wallpaper, but it turned out the gray survace we'd revealed was just another layer over more wallpaper and paint, and more drawings.

Here we are going after the last few layers.

There were a few more professions of undying love buried under the layers.
 Some other assorted drawings...

The most stubborn wallpaper, we just ended up mudding over the next day.
There was much discussion and contemplation.
Unfortunately we didn't get a good shot of the one piece of writing with a date before the mud went on, but I believe this says 23 March 1976.  It appeared as though somebody's entire freshman class had scribbled on the walls before it got papered over.
After the first coat of mud was done (thanks mostly to dad) there wasn't much to do but light yardwork, and heavy porch-sitting.

Thanks to all the parents for the help!

The goal is to get that upstairs bedroom finished so we can move into it, move the TV and couch into the downstairs bedroom (which doesn't really need more than a coat of paint to be good as new) and thus clear the way for some massive demolition in the living room.  The living room makeover will include removing the fake wood panelling, replacing the carpet with wood floor, and insulating the ceiling (while still leaving the beams exposed).  It will be a big messy job.  Can't wait :)
